Acidic foods and hair problems

Foods, acidic or basic effects and hair

Your body, like your scalp needs a certain balance between vitamins, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and minerals of all kinds such as zinc, iron, copper, calcium and many others. All these components are found in the foods we eat every day, and all have either positive or negative impact on the level of acidity in the scalp (and body in general).

An excessive alkaline diet and impact on the scalp

Excess acidity inside the human body can cause different types of physical problems such as lower tolerance to stress and physical pain, a slow down of internal organs and even a minor acceleration of the body aging. But above all, it is the risk of increased inflammation, combined with stress that can be very harmful and cause disruption of the natural hair life cycle.

Acid levels dangerous to the hair

The potential of hydrogen (acidity level)

The measure of the level of acidity or alkalinity of the body and scalp, also called potential hydrogen (pH) results in a scale from 0 to 14 which includes all foods that man consumes each day. This level varies depending on the amount of protein, fat, carbohydrates and other minerals absorbed by the body and scalp. The absolute acidity is represented by the number 0 while alkalinity resulted in absolute value 14. In the middle, we find that pure water is the perfect balance.

Excessive acidity of scalp

The alkalinity of human blood tends around 7.4 (average change 7.38 to 7.42). The  experts advise against consumption of foods that can increase too significantly the acidity level of the body, scalp and therefore of the blood. A pH level below 6.5 therefore leads to dandruff and itchy scalp as well as a risk of hair loss.

Dandruff and acid

The acid tends to dry the skin, which can lead to increase dry dandruff. This type of dandruff is the most common. Dry dandruff are more visible because they are the result of whitish scales that are easily observable on clothing and dark hair. An increasing inflammation of the scalp results in dull and lifeless hair.

Hair loss due to acidity

The acidity of the scalp does not create directly a hair loss problem loss but leads in various changes in the balance of the natural hair life cycle. Indeed, the acidity of the scalp directly affects the root of your hair follicle and therefore has a major impact on the normal growth of your hair.

Do not wait until the acidity level of your scalp causes even more problems. Make a complete diagnosis of your hair condition: natural solutions will help you regulate your scalp.
