Hair follicle

The hair follicle is a very thin membrane of epidermis that extends from the deepest layer of the skin (dermis) to the surface. The hair follicle, which looks like a small bag, contains the hair root and is the basis for the creation of hair throughout life. Thus, from the deepest part of the hair follicle, the cells go back to the surface and become hair by keratinization. Each hair follicle is surrounded by a network of small nerve fibers allowing the hairs transmit very low sensations.
