Anencephaly and scalp
Anencephaly is a defect of the central nervous system of the embryo (brain and spinal cord) that causes a total or partial interruption of the forming of the brain, skull and scalp. Anencephaly occurs usually towards the end of the first month of pregnancy. Babies with this malformation are often stillborn or die within hours or days after birth. Most of the time, babies affected by anencephaly are born without hair.
